Picking against the spread?
We thought about that and we tried it, I think two years ago. Last year, we removed that feature for these reasons:
- It required more data entry effort each week and admins are busy and/or lazy people
- Using spreads makes playing more difficult.
The objective of jPickem was to keep it simple. We wanted to make this something that *anyone* could play and using spreads requires an additional layer of thought. You would be shocked, well, maybe not shocked but at least possibly surprised to learn that many people don't understand spreads. We polled about a hundred users and it was clear that picking winners and assigning confidence was plenty enough work. (Actually, too much for enough that we created Pick Wizard) Read more about how jPick helps peeps make smart picks.
Here's proof that we were thinking about this... the fields are still in the game records. :)
It doesn't matter what you do with those -- as the result engine ignores them.
(We'll likely comment those out in the production release but leave the fields in the DB ...just in case)
