Entering Scores

Entering Scores

The Score Entering IconWhen games are over, you (or someone) needs to enter the game scores.   If you are using only NFL games, it's not that big of a chore.    There are two parts to game scoring:  1.  Entering the scores and 2. Running the "scoring engine"

To enter scores, you can allow members of your pool to help with that.  By making them Author or above, they will see a Scores icon in their control panel.   If they click that, they will see all games for the week.

Recording scores requires entering a score for each team, then clicking save.   If the game is over, then click the Final checkbox.   (Some like to run scores at halftime, so you can update standings based on what would happen of those teams ended up with the win)

The Game Scoring Screen

Important:  Entering scores here alone does not update the standings.   That is an admin function that can't be done from the user control panel.

The Results EngineAfter the scores have been entered, the next step is to calculate the points and update the standings.  This is done via the Result Engine.

It's pretty simple.   You go to a screen where you select the week you want to summarize... then click RUN.

About 20 seconds later, all points are calculated and the standings are upated.

You can rerun standings at any time during the season.   For example, if in week 4 someone reports a data entry error in week 2, you would go back to week 2, rerun those points, then rerun the last week again.   (jPickem standings module will always reflect the most recently run week.)

This feature of jPickem is only available via the admin backend.   While you can have "score helpers" for entering game data, only admins will be able to update the standings.
